Awards of Excellence

The Meagan Bebenek Foundation Awards of Excellence recognize individuals and groups who are making a significant impact in the field of paediatric brain tumours. These awards are presented at our annual Night of Discovery event, celebrating their remarkable contributions to research, awareness, and support.

MBF Award for Medical Excellence is presented to a doctor, researcher or research lab team that makes a significant advancement or breakthrough in the area of paediatric brain tumour research or treatment.

Dr. Eric Bouffet

& Dr. Michael Reber

2024 Recipients

Dr. Bouffet and Dr. Reber were honoured with this award for their groundbreaking collaboration on an innovative visual rehabilitation program. This program has significantly improved vision in children and adolescents affected by paediatric brain tumours.

Dr. James Rutka
2023 Recipient

As a well-respected neurosurgeon and senior scientist, Dr. James’ career has been dedicated to improving treatment options and outcomes for children with brain tumours.

MBF Award for Advocacy and Influence is awarded to a person or group who demonstrates leadership in advancing awareness about paediatric brain tumours.

Sherry Holmes
2024 Recipient

A dedicated MBF ambassador, Sherry Holmes has been a powerful advocate for MBF. As a TV host and leading voice in skilled trades, she has used her platform to raise awareness and inspire hope. Her commitment to this cause is deeply personal— having been diagnosed with a brain tumor as a teenager, Sherry’s advocacy is both meaningful and deeply impactful.

Andrew Kaczynski & Rachel Ensign
2023 Recipients

Andrew and Rachel’s daughter, Francesca, was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive-to-treat brain tumour called Atypical Teratoid Rhabdoid Tumor (ATRT) at six months old. Andrew documented and publicly shared Francesca’s journey with her brain tumour, creating awareness about the seriousness of the disease. Francesca, affectionately nicknamed ‘Bean’, passed away three short months following her diagnosis. Andrew and Rachel continued to share their story throughout the grieving process.

The couple established Team Beans Infant Brain Tumour Fund benefiting a new Dana Farber Cancer Institute program that brings together paediatric oncologists for clinical trials and lab research.

MBF Amplifier Award recognizes exceptional individuals or organizations that have been instrumental in supporting Meagan Bebenek Foundation's mission to spread hope and raise awareness about pediatric brain tumours.

Andria Case

2024 Recipient

A steadfast supporter of MBF, Andria Case has championed our cause at our events and throughout the Toronto community. As a trusted CTV News Anchor, she has used her platform to passionately advocate for our mission, amplifying our efforts and increasing public awareness of paediatric brain tumours.

Jamie Thompson

2023 Recipient

Jamie Thompson leads by example, creating a culture of volunteerism and giving back to the community. As a volunteer Communications Advisor with MBF, Jamie has helped us increase the volume of our message year after year. Additionally, Adapt has proudly donated advertising space for years, from airports lounges to drive test centers, convenience stores, and gas stations.
