When my daughter Meagan was diagnosed with a brain tumour, our world was turned upside down. No parent can ever be prepared for that kind of news. In the midst of fear, uncertainty, and heartbreak, one thing became clear: we were not alone. Our family, friends, and even strangers came together in ways I could never have imagined, offering love, support, and encouragement when we needed it most.
From home-cooked meals delivered to our door to simple yet powerful messages of hope, the kindness we received lifted us up. It reminded me that, in times of struggle, communities have the power to hold each other up. It was this experience—the unwavering support of those around us—that inspired the creation of Meagan Bebenek Foundation (MBF) and, ultimately, our signature event, the HUG.
HUG: A Gathering of Support for Everyone
The HUG is more than just an event. It is a reminder that no one should face life’s challenges alone. While MBF’s mission is deeply rooted in supporting families affected by paediatric brain tumours, we recognize that hardship comes in many forms. Whether someone is dealing with an illness, the loss of a loved one, or any personal struggle, the HUG is there to offer a sense of connection, strength, and hope.
At the HUG, we bring together people from all walks of life—families, caregivers, friends, and community members—because support should not be limited to a specific diagnosis or circumstance. Just as my family was held up by the kindness of others during Meagan’s illness, we want to ensure that no one feels isolated in their journey.
The Ripple Effect of Kindness
What I learned during Meagan’s battle is that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a world of difference. A warm meal, a shared story, a simple hug—these gestures remind us that we are not alone. It is in these moments of connection that we find the strength to keep going.
The HUG embodies this spirit. It is a space where people can come together, share their experiences, and uplift one another. It is about fostering a sense of belonging, understanding, and resilience.
Join Us in Spreading Hope
No one can predict the hardships life may bring, but together, we can create a community that makes difficult times a little easier to bear. I invite you to join us at the HUG—to be a part of something bigger, to give and receive support, and to stand together in kindness and compassion.
Because no matter what you are facing, you are never alone and hope changes everything.
